Karma: Chapter 03 The Gossip’s Gossip

Karma kept the baby’s cribs close to the kitchen so she could keep an eye on them while they slept and while she cleaned around the house. She felt overprotective although so far they were healthy.

She finally found the courage to leave them with Gyll while she returned to work. Not that she didn’t trust Gyll, she just wanted to be around them constantly.

[Her career suddenly says that she is an Education Minister, although she doesn’t have a whole lot of skills yet. It skipped some promotions. And her LTW says Education Minister, but she is not Platinum. I don’t know what this glitch is all about.]

Gyll loved taking care of the twins. They were good babies. He just found it a bit overwhelming when both wanted their feedings at the same time or needed a diaper change.

He soon realized that he needed help, but Karma refused to hire a Nanny. She had been raised with a Nanny and had bad memories of it.

He finally called Melissa, his coworkers, and she agreed to stop by at times to give him a hand with the twins.

Karma has more surgery done to her face, some minor tweaking and the biggest one for her was fixing her eyes. The surgeon was able to make them seem smaller. She was so happy and ecstatic with the result that she had a new hairstyle. She no longer wanted to hide her eyes with her bangs anymore.

She had a lot of calls from reporters wanting to do interviews. She declined them all, but then decided to do one with People magazine. She wanted to show that the was help and hope out there for those who desperately needed it.

She was pleased to see how People magazine had laid out her story. They had also interviewed the surgeons and with hers and the surgeons consents, showed a lot of pictures of the before and after and the procedure. The only thing she didn’t like was that they printed that it had changed her life, as if to imply that she hadn’t been happy before the operation. When in fact she had met the love of her life at the time. However, people who’d take the time to read the whole interview will see that.

She received a lot of phone calls after that from people she didn’t know who were either born disfigured or were left disfigured after an illness or an accident. She tried to help them and steer them in the right direction. However, all the calls she received to make more interviews, she declined. She hated to spend more time away from her babies.

She didn’t want to become famous, she just wanted a simple, normal life with her family. Gyll supported her in any decisions she made. She felt she was the luckiest woman in the world.

Karma hired a young girl to babysit the twins, but she wanted to test her out before she’d leave her alone with them, so she stayed home and did her own stuff while the sitter took care of the babies.

She still wasn’t comfortable leaving the twins with a sitter, so she decided she and Gyll would take turns taking a day off from work until the babies were a little older.

Karma started working out to loose the fat she had gained during the pregnancy.

The twins were growing so fast. They both have their father’s blue eyes. They love to dress them the same way, although they are not identical.

Karma even likes to have their hair cut the same way.

They look less alike when they are sideways. Lacey’s nose is flat like when Karma was born. Sapphire’s nose is growing normally.

They are just like any other toddlers. They both love to play and laugh and Karma and Gyll enjoy spending time with them.

Karma and Gyll hadn’t taken the twins out in public much yet, so one day they decided to bring them out. They really had a lot of fun. They enjoyed each others company and didn’t care about having some people stare at the girls.

They family outing was soon turned into a nightmare by the media. The paparazzi had followed them and took pictures of them and sold them to the Enquirer, whom in turn made up wild stories about them. Karma didn’t understand why they would lie like that about her and her husband. She wished she hadn’t agreed to do the interview with People magazine. What had they ever done to deserve this?

Karma was born deformed. Usually people “ooos” and “awws” over newborns, but nobody did that when she was born. She was too different and it scared people. People judge by what they see. Although in every other ways she was normal, she was far from being treated as such.

As she grew it got worse. She certainly did everything any other toddler did, but people wouldn’t see that, they would focus on her physical deformities. She didn’t know why some people looked away, ignored her, or laughed at her, she just wanted attention like any other child.

She spent long hours in the high chair when a Nanny came by to take care of her. She’d just leave her there and do other things.

She would often be left outside playing alone unattended. It’s a wonder that she was never hit by a car.

She loved to see people and wanted their attention but most would just stare as if she was a freak.

Even though she had trouble making friends, she still liked to attend school. She loved to learn things and play with those who would allow her to play with them.

As a teenager things got even worse. She began to be aware that she was very different. Boys saw her as a freak. No one ever asked her out on dates like other girls her age.

She tried her best to be like other teenagers. She loved bright colors, but she wasn’t good at matching them up.

Then she finally realized that she was too different. Nothing she did would make any difference. After she finished her studies, she moved out of town. She planned on being a teacher one day and she just wanted to start fresh somewhere else. Somewhere where she’d have more hope and a chance to follow her dreams. She had too much to offer the world just to be cooped up in her parent’s house hiding behind her “normal” sister’s shadow.

Karma: Twice Happy Chapter 02

Gyll was often giving Karma compliments and saying he admired her. They had been married for over 4 months and so far everything was going so smoothly. She realized that she half expected for something wrong to happen eventually. Everything was going so good in her life. Even had work she had just had a promotion to being a High School Teacher. She was now able to afford her plastic surgery. They had her name on a list and she was waiting for the call.

 

The surgeons were able to build her a nose, rearrange her jaws, and fill her lips. The result was remarkable! She had never imagined that she would look normal and human one day. Yet she was, well, almost. They didn’t think they could do anything for her eyes and ears, until a different surgeon said that he could, so she had to wait for that call to see what he could do for her.

It had taken over a month to completely heal, but the result was worth every pain and discomfort she went through.

She often found herself looking at herself in the mirror. Making faces and having fun with her new face.

Gyll adored her new look and new self confidence in her physical appearance. She now accepted his compliments more. She had helped him so much with his public shyness that he was happy that she was getting the help she had always wanted.

When Gyll wasn’t working at the restaurant or spending time with Karma, he liked to play the bass. His passion was Jazz.

Her friend Marylena was shocked at Karma’s new face. She joked that maybe she should have surgery as well. But Marylena was already pretty, she just felt her nose was a bit too wide. Everyone has complains on something about themselves, no matter how pretty they are.

They had been trying to get pregnant for a few months and finally Karma got pregnant. She was starting to think maybe she couldn’t conceive. Gyll had been talking about having children for a while. He had even picked out the names when they first decided to start a family. He wanted Lacey if it was a girl and Lyric for a boy.

Melissa was a friend of Marylena and she also worked with Gyll, so she’d often drop by. But she would spend most of her time playing with Gyll’s bass. Gyll cooked a delicious pork chop dinner and she didn’t even join them at the table.

Karma was getting closer to her due date and she was getting a bit anxious. She started worrying about the baby’s health and if it would be born with deformities. She had a call from the surgeon, but she had to put her surgery to a later date now that she was pregnant.

Gyll also liked to paint and he loved painting portraits of his wife. She confided her worries to him about the baby being born deformed, but he told her it was unlikely that the baby would have any, and even if he/she did, he had confidence in Karma that she would teach their child how to deal with it. And now surgeons could even help.

Marylena, being the pessimist, had tried to convince Karma to have an ultra sound to see if the baby looked alright, but Karma had always refused. Her argument was that even if she knew in advanced, what would it change? She certainly planned on giving her child the love and time that she had lacked growing up, no matter what.

Finally the big day arrived when Karma went into labour. To her surprise, she delivered twins! Both were girls. The first baby came out and Karma laughing pointing out that she had a nose, at first she hadn’t noticed that the baby had huge eyes. When the second girl was born her heart sank when she realized that she had a deformed nose. She just felt bad for her baby that she would probably suffer in the hands of cruel children’s comments.

Gyll named the lighter skinned baby Lacey, and Karma named the other girl Sapphire.

Karma: Beautiful Soul Chapter 01

Meet Karma Allan. She just moved to a new neighbourhood to start a new life. She was born disfigured in the face, but she has a big caring heart. Her sister was born very pretty and never had a hard time in her life. Karma on the other hand always had to work extra hard on everything she did. People either stared at her or ignored her altogether. They were making her feel inhuman, like some sort of monster. But Karma was no monster. The few that took the time to get to know her didn’t regret it.

It wasn’t bad enough that she was born with extremely large eyes, but when she turned sideways her nose was nonexistent. That’s what bothered her the most about her facial disfigurement. She’d heard so many jokes about her nose that she was sick of them. Not to mention nose picking remarks.

She just bought a big beautiful house in a quiet neighbourhood.  She didn’t like how the inside was laid out, but she would change it to her liking in time. The price had been hard to beat so she had jumped at the chance. Now she would be saving to have plastic surgery. She was doing research on it while saving money, trying to find a good doctor who could help her.

She’d always been very playful. She was like a child at heart. She could find fun in anything. Living alone she felt unjudged and enjoyed herself freely.

She’s always had a drive to learn. She can spend hours reading and learning new things. That’s why she’s hoping to get a job in the education career in this new neighbourhood. She has so much knowledge to share.

She looked through the job section in the paper and called for an interview. She didn’t want to get her hopes up, but she did get the job. They were impressed with her knowledge and charismatic ways. They told her they would test her out.

She loved making friends, so when Gyll started being friendly to her, she was so happy. They had a lot in common and enjoyed chatting together for hours. He was also new in the neighbourhood and worked at a restaurant. He was shy and a bit eccentric.

She invited him over for lunch one day. She wasn’t much of a cook and made him promise to make her a good dinner one day. He agreed and started planning on it.

Gyll often dropped by or called her. He was so shy that he would ask her advice on how to treat the customers at work, he told her she had a gift of making people feel at ease. He admitted that he had trouble getting close to people, but with her he felt he’d known her all his life.

Gyll had often touched her hand and given her friendly hugs. He was such a beautiful man that she had never allowed herself to think of him being more than a friend. But one night he put his arm around her shoulder and drew her closer to him. She had no idea what to make of it.

“I have been wanting to kiss you for a long time now.” He admitted shyly.

“Are you making fun of me?” She blurted out. Maybe he had a bet going on with some friends just to make fun of her.

“I didn’t mean to offend you… I’m sorry. I would never make fun of you.” He stammered. “I just like you so much.” He blushed.

It happened so quick. Karma’s head was spinning as they kissed. She had never kissed a man before and it was even better than she had ever imagined. He held her warmly and drew her closer as they kissed.

Karma was rarely speechless, but after that kiss she was. He teased her about it being the first time he saw her shy.

“I’ve never kissed a guy before.” She admitted.

“What have I done to be so blessed to be the first one?” He said as he continued to hold her. “Can I come again tomorrow to cook you a nice dinner?” Of course she wanted to see him again, now more than ever. She had never allowed herself to think of dating, and now here she was being held by such a sweet and handsome man. She told herself she would just enjoy the fling. He was new in the neighbourhood and probably bored and needed a little fun. Just the same, she agreed to see him again the next day.

She had trouble sleeping that night. She couldn’t stop reliving her close moments spent with Gyll. She wondered if he’d even call her again.

He did call. And he did drop by to fix her a nice meal. When he arrived, he gently kissed her and told her he had thought of her all day. He made her the nicest meal she had ever eaten. But then again she could have eaten Kraft Dinner and she would have thought it was the best.

She had the best night of her life. He swept her off her feet, literally. They danced, kissed, cuddled, and talked for hours. They couldn’t get enough of each other.

After he left, Karma got on the computer and Emailed her friend. She had to tell someone about Gyll or she would burst. Her friend Emailed her back to tell her to be cautious, he could be thinking she had a lot of money or out to con her in some way. She tried to keep a level head, she knew her friend meant well and she could be right. But her heart felt that he was sincere.

She woke up to find flowers on her doorstep from Gyll. Thanking her to have let him in her life and heart. He then came by and proposed marriage to her. He said he couldn’t stop thinking about her and felt his best whenever he was around her. He told her he was head over heals in love and asked if she’d marry him.

“Gyll, I still think I am dreaming.” She said nervously but happily.

“So do I.” He said. “And if I am, please don’t wake me.”

They had a small wedding ceremony outside with Karma’s friend.

 

They talked for a while afterwards, but Gyll couldn’t keep his eyes off of his new wife.

He later surprised Karma when a limo came by to pick them up. He promised her a beautiful honeymoon. She couldn’t help but feel like Cinderella and she feared loosing a shoe as she ran towards the limo.

But she didn’t loose a shoe and she wasn’t dreaming. They had a wonderful honeymoon, spending every minute together. Making love and talking till dawn.
